To become an actor or actress it is important to have talent, adequate training and where possible also experience. But in the same way, it is also important to know how to present yourself well and to do so you must first aim at having a well-written and understandable curriculum vitae. In fact, there are many who want to pursue an acting career and presenting a CV that is correctly written and does not contain superfluous information is the first way to make a good impression and bypass the competition. Writing an actor CV could be more complex than writing one for other types of professions so it is good to spend some time to customize it to the maximum and make sure it is truly flawless. In this guide you will find instructions on how to write a CV as a generic actor, and you can start from this to customize the document according to your specializations.

Personal data

The section containing the personal data of the actor or actress is essential and must be as detailed as possible. In fact, very often agents or casting directors have to choose an actor based on his personal data, for example for specific parts that require a person of a specific age, so it is good to pay close attention to this section of the CV. The photo is essential in an actor’s CV, so it must be added to the document before sending it.

Course of study

The course of study is particularly important for an actor, especially if you are applying for parts that require specific preparation. This is where specific diplomas and training courses followed in acting and the like must be inserted, while it is not necessary to enter any higher diplomas if not related to the career of an actor.

Studies

  • 2014 – 2015 Dubbing Course, Dubbing Academy, Rome
  • 2008 – 2013 National Academy of Dramatic Art, Silvio D’Amico, Rome

Professional experience

In this part of the CV, experiences as an actor or actress should be entered, specifying, where possible, the title of the show or film and the role that has been played, specifying whether it is a main or secondary character. Since the accumulated experiences can be multiple, insert only those that are relevant to the role you are applying for: if for example, you are applying for a part in a comedy, insert only similar roles. If you are applying as a theater actor, enter only relevant experiences and not those related to cinema and TV.

Foreign languages

Knowledge of foreign languages could be a plus for an actor, as long as he feels comfortable acting in a language other than his own. Entering foreign languages that you can speak fluently enough to be able to recite with these is therefore essential, just as it is essential to enter any knowledge of Italian dialects.

Known languages

  • Spanish – Good
  • Albanian – Excellent
  • Roman dialect – Excellent

Hobbies and Interests

All activities which, although not strictly related to acting, can be defined as complementary and transversal to the work of an actor inserted in the Hobbies and Interests section. Obviously, the relevant ones must be inserted and not the accessory ones, always to avoid that the CV becomes full of useless information: if you love cooking, you must not insert it in this part of the CV because, unless you are applying for a talent show, it has nothing to do with a career as a professional actor and adds nothing to your skills.

Hobbies and Interests

  • Dance
  • Piano

How to layout an actor’s CV

A good actor’s CV must be comprehensive on first reading and must not contain redundant information otherwise, it is very likely to be thrown away. It is also good that it does not exceed two pages, precisely to facilitate reading and clarity. Always be careful to use an easily readable font and to space the various paragraphs correctly; if you decide to add a touch of color to your CV, choose a color that conveys vitality such as red or green. Finally, remember that a CV full of grammatical errors does not prove in favor of those who submit it, so be careful to re-read the document several times to avoid horrors that could cost you the interview.
